Dear friend, here is the best kept secret to happiness. This is a proven formula that will work for you at any stage of your life. It is a formula that took me many years to put together and I want you to consider it like precious gold and never lose sight of it. You will find it will always lighten your daily stresses. It is a formula that will also help you reduce worry. It is laughter.
When you laugh the heart beats faster and sends the blood through the body. There is not a blood vessel throughout the whole body that does not feel the waves of motion of a good heart laugh. Laughter increases the respiration and gives a glow to the whole system; it will do a great deal to help you keep your health or restore it.
We live in a society where bad news, anxiety, anger and fear could destroy our poise, while laughter restores it. Always try to keep in good humor, for anger kills happiness. The next time you feel yourself becoming angry, force yourself to laugh and you will find that instantly your anger subsides. The other person cannot get angry with you unless you get angry. There is a famous saying, “it takes two to tangle.” Remember this next time you feel angry with someone, remain poised and smile and see how much better you feel.
The Best Kept Secret to Happiness
If you are not in the habit of laughing, develop the habit. Read funny stories and tell them to others in a funny way. They will make others laugh and you will find that by making others laugh you will get the spirit and laugh yourself. Laughter is contagious. Another thing you can do is to watch humorous videos or movies. Laughing is really a tonic.
Here is an exercise I want you to do for the next 7 days. Every day for the next week, spend five or ten minutes laughing, first thing in the morning. Do this in your study, at your kitchen table or wherever works for you. You may find this challenging, since we are not encouraged to laugh a lot in our culture.
You’ll probably have to fake it until you make it. That’s okay. Pretend that you are an actress, laughing for a part. When the week is over or possibly sooner, you’ll see that it’s possible for you to laugh at anything; that laughter is a choice. That’s a very powerful tool to have to take you through difficult times. It will change your life. It changed mine.
