Dear friend, what is the quality of your communication with yourself? What are you telling yourself? Is it empowering or dis-empowering you?
The quality of our life is the quality of our communication. It is not the events of our life that determine how we feel about things or how things turn out, but rather how we communicate with ourselves about the events of our life. It is not what happens, in other words, it is what we do with what happens inside our head that determines how we feel and how we react. If we want to master our own life, we have to master how we communicate with ourselves.
Here is an example. A friend once told me that while on his regular morning run with his dog on the highway, he heard this screeching sound behind him, and as he looked back, he noticed the driver beckoning to him to get in the car quickly. Completely startled, he asked, why? To which the man replied that there was a dog chasing him. You see, that man had been badly bitten by a dog, so in his mind he projected his fear onto the situation.
We must learn how to communicate with ourselves in empowering ways and not in dis-empowering ways. Most of us get caught up in the habit of doing something, and just do it that way over and over again, until pretty soon, we forget why we even started or why we were doing it in the first place. You don’t want to remain unconscious. Unconscious communication creates pain. I’ll ask you this question, why do we communicate?
I believe we communicate for three reasons:
• To create a positive feeling within ourselves or to amplify a positive feeling we are already having.
• To get out of negative feelings or a negative state. To create a new result.
• We don’t like the way something is happening and we want to change it.
This leads to the questions: “Why do you want to create a new result? Why do you want to change anything?”
The only reason you want to change anything in your life is, because you think that if you do that (get the new dress, car, relationship) you will feel better. Isn’t that true? The only reason you seek to create new results is to feel good. Why do you want to get out of the negative feeling? It is to feel good.
The challenge is that most of us don’t communicate in a way to make us feel good or that empowers us. This week, I encourage you to pay attention to your self-talk. What are you telling yourself? Is it empowering or dis-empowering you?
Now You Know Pass It On. Tell your friends and family.
Until next time, make this a week one in which you are living your life to the fullest.
With appreciation and gratitude
